Are you looking to clear up some common errors made by elementary learners?
This worksheet is a fun way of helping your students understand some errors which they are likely to make.
The target language is generally found in an elementary textbook. The Present Perfect isn't included here; we have set things at a more basic level, with emphasis on present and past tenses, prepositions, adjectives and more.
You could cut the cards up or give the sheet out whole to pairs/small groups.
If you're looking for something on these lines for your advanced classes, search for our other 'grammar goofs' lesson, which has much more challenging sentences!
How honest are your students?! We're quite sure that they have the highest ethical standards - and you can use this worksheet to prove it!
This lighthearted quiz will give your class the opportunity to practice speaking, using the second conditional (if + would for unlikely scenarios).
The quiz can be conducted in pairs, with the interviewer asking the reasons for a particular answer. There is space to make brief notes, and you can spend some time getting feedback from your class.
This worksheet is written for intermediate-level students.
How good are your students at advanced error correction?
This worksheet looks at grammar mistakes which are commonly made by native speakers. There are twenty-four different sentences. Can your class find the errors?
The lesson works well with a follow-up discussion. Some of the 'errors' in the sentences may well be controversial. Should we really care about split infinitive? How does English grammar compare to your students' mother tongue? Is the grammar strict in their language? Do people regularly break the rules?
This lesson is designed for advanced-level classes.
Students need lots of practice of basic passive forms! This game will help take the pressure off them and add an element of fun to the lesson.
This pairs game (also called concentration or pelmanism) has twelve different sentences made up of 24 cards. Students need to match the verb to the cue. They will then be able to make sentences such as:
Penguins are found in Antarctica
and
Citizen Kane was directed by Orson Welles
This worksheet is ideal for low-level students who are very new to the passive form.
